High School Sweethearts
George and Norma Strait’s journey began in their hometown of Pearsall, Texas, where they first met during high school. Despite knowing each other for years, it wasn’t until George asked Norma out that their romantic relationship began.
After a brief period of dating and a hiatus, George realized he was missing something significant and rekindled their romance.
This led to their decision to elope in Mexico on December 4, 1971, shortly before George enlisted in the U.S. Army. They later celebrated with a church ceremony in Pearsall, solidifying their commitment to each other.
Building a Family
The couple welcomed their first child, Jenifer Lynn Strait, on October 6, 1972. Tragically, Jenifer passed away in a car accident in 1986 at the age of 13. In honour of her memory, George and Norma established the Jenifer Strait Memorial Foundation, which supports various children’s charities.
Their second child, George “Bubba” Strait Jr., was born in 1981 and has followed in his father’s footsteps as a songwriter and competitive rodeo cowboy.
Life Together
Norma played a crucial role as a stay-at-home mother while George pursued his burgeoning music career. She joined him on tour after Bubba went to college, supporting him through the highs and lows of his career.
Despite the demands of fame and travel, George and Norma have always prioritized their relationship and family life. They are now proud grandparents to Bubba’s children, George “Harvey” Strait III and Jilliann Louise Strait.
