Western Australian households are set to receive a much-needed financial boost as the state government rolls out the second instalment of its $700 Household Electricity Credit. Starting December 7, every household in the state will see a $350 credit applied to their energy bills, providing timely relief amid rising living costs.
How It Works
The $350 credit will be automatically applied to energy bills for customers of Synergy and Horizon Power, ensuring a seamless process for most residents. Those who use other energy providers can still access the benefit by applying through RevenueWA, with applications open until January 31, 2025.
This initiative is part of a broader partnership between the Cook Labor Government and the Albanese Federal Government to ease cost-of-living pressures.
Long-Term Support for WA Families
This latest credit builds on the Western Australian Government’s ongoing efforts to support households. Over the past four years, WA families have received a total of $2,100 in power bill relief, thanks to various government initiatives.
Premier Roger Cook emphasized the importance of this assistance during challenging economic times. “We are committed to delivering real cost-of-living relief to WA families. This $350 credit will ensure every household enjoys some financial breathing room this Christmas,” he said.
Treasurer Rita Saffioti echoed these sentiments, highlighting that strong financial management has enabled the government to provide such support. “This is genuine assistance that makes a tangible difference to families juggling rising expenses,” she stated.
Additional Support Available
For households requiring further help, additional programs such as the Energy Assistance Payment and the Dependent Child Rebate are available. These initiatives aim to provide comprehensive support to families facing financial strain.
A Joint Effort for Relief
The $700 Household Electricity Credit is a collaborative effort between state and federal governments, reflecting a shared commitment to easing financial burdens on Australians. The first instalment of $350 was distributed earlier this year in July, and this second payment ensures continued support as the year ends.
Energy Minister Reece Whitby emphasized that this initiative also aligns with broader goals of investing in clean, reliable, and affordable energy for Western Australia. “This credit not only provides immediate relief but also supports our long-term vision for energy affordability,” he said.
A Welcome Relief Amid Rising Costs
As Australians grapple with increasing living expenses, this timely credit offers much-needed relief for Western Australians heading into the holiday season. With over $2 billion allocated for energy affordability over recent years, the Cook Labor Government continues its commitment to supporting families and businesses through economic challenges.
For those eligible but not yet enrolled, now is the time to act and ensure you don’t miss out on this valuable assistance.
